El Anatsui My Visual Hero

So the Brooklyn Museum has an incredible exhibit of El Anatsui's work up, now until August 13th.  If you can, go.  You will encounter what are truly significant works of art.  He has been one of my favorite living and working artists for a while now, ever since I wandered into Jack Shainman Gallery years ago and had my mind completely blown.  More majestic regal and nuanced work has never crossed my path, and as an appreciator of all things textile, his use of metal astounds.  I was particularly taken somehow with the shadows the works made on the walls, and took some photos. Want to use them to create an El Anatsui inspired collection of textile designs.

Old Work New Perspective

RECENTLY took a trip to my old home, Montréal, QC-  while there, visiting friends and family, I was surprised by just how much of my work was on their walls.  It was work I had forgotten about, but rewarding to reconnect.  

Surface Textile Designs

Fall and winter 2012 I was gainfully engaged in an internship with a great artistic Textile Design company based out of NY and London.  I had a great time with them, painting and drawing, and realized in the process that if I am to make any commercially successful work at all, I have a lot to learn in the way of Photoshop and Illustrator.  Whew!  So here are a few images of designs that I had a hand in, and that you may see variations of in stores from Sweden to San Francisco. . .
